Mary Jane Doerr. "Violinist Hugo Gottesmann: Exiled Virtuoso" Michigan Jewish History Vol. 57, Fall 2017, Cheshvan 5778. P. 82
I just read your article in MICHIGAN JEWISH HISTORY on Hugo Gottesmann. Nicely done. Keep putting pen-to-paper, as the people of this state need more interesting stories like this from you.

Hugo Gottesmann was on the Bay View Music Festival Staff from 1942 until his death in 1970. His escape from Europe in 1936 was enabled by Bishop Raymond J. Wade, Bishop of the Northern European Methodist Church and President of the Scandinavian Theological Seminary. There are some 1800 entries in Austrian newspapers from 1912 until he was forced to leave Vienna in 1936 because of his Jewish heritage. These articles report his extraordinary career as a violinist, conductor, chamber musician, and soloist.
Bay View is a National Historic Landmark which offered the only college level classes in Northern Michigan until 1959. Today it sponsors the Bay View Music Festival, now the oldest festival in the United States.
